Family Weekend


Slifka Center is delighted to welcome families to join us for services, meals, musical performances, and more for Family Weekend!

Here is a list of what’s happening at Slifka Center.  If you have any questions or would like to make meal reservations, please call us at (203) 432-1134.  During building hours, please visit the Allan and Leah Rabinowitz Gallery on the 2nd floor to see Pattern Language: The Works of Shulamith Nebenzhal Levine.

Friday October 28
Building Hours: 7:30 am to 11:30 pm

  • 5:30 PM Shabbat Kiddush/Happy Hour at Slifka Center
  • 5:40 PM Orthodox Services at Slifka
  • 5:45  PM Conservative/Egal and Reform Shabbat Services at Slifka; Shabbat Unplugged at Dwight Hall
  • 7:00 PM Shabbat dinner  ($15/person for those not on the meal plan. Please call to make reservations at 203-432-1134.)
  • 8:30 PM Magevet, Yale’s Jewish A Capella group, including the first public performance of the freshman members

Saturday October 29
Building Hours: 8:30 am to 11:30 pm

  • 9:00 AM Orthodox Shabbat Services at Slifka
  • 10:00 AM – Conservative/Egal services, and Reconstructionist services at Slifka
  • 12:30 Lunch in Heyman Commons ($15/person for those not on the meal plan. Please call to make reservations at 203-432-1134.)
  • 3:00 PM Afternoon Lecture with Yale Diplomat-in-Residence Charles Hill entitled “Why the Arab Spring is Not the Most Important Recent Development in the Middle East”
  • 4:00 PM Open House – Slifka Main Level
  • 5:35 PM Mincha (Orthodox) – Slifka 2nd Floor
  • 6:00 PM Seudah Shlishit in Heyman Commons at Slifka (no charge)

Sunday October 30
Building Hours: 8:15 am to 11:30 pm

  • 11AM — 1:00 PM Slifka Open House and Bagel Brunch, with bagels and lox galore! ($10/person for those not on the meal plan)

If you are not able to attend Family Weekend, but would like to visit the Yale campus on other dates – that’s between you and your beloved student(s). Our doors are always open to the larger community, and families are welcome at any public Slifka event.
